Learning As I Go

It’s been about three days since launching this site, and wowie-zowie, have I learned a lot about web hosting! It’s a whole new world on the other side of the screen. cPanel, php, WordPress, DNS, plug-ins, and so much more.

I have answers now to many questions that I started with, such as how do I get a domain name? How do I create a contact form? What is a SSL certificate and how do I use it on my site? Why is it only secure on PC, but not on mobile?

More Questions Than Answers

As I’ve found answers to these questions, more questions surfaced, as well as learning from my mistakes. After doing a little more research, I’ve found that SSL certificates can be much much cheaper than the one that GoDaddy offers (the host of this website). In fact, it seems that most web developers warn to steer clear from many of GoDaddy’s services. Lucky enough for me, I have been pretty frugal in what I’ve signed up for. Once the contract is up for GoDaddy, I may be exploring other options.

Plug-In Bonanza!

There are a TON of options to add to your website. I feel like the hardest part of this process is figuring out which plug-ins do what I want for free or on the cheap-cheap. A couple of my must haves so far are WPForms for forms, wooCommerce for the shop, and WordFence for 2FA.

Plug it in, plug it in!

There are so many more things I want to try as I get into creating new pages, not only for myself, but for others, too! If you have any favorite WordPress plug-ins, please let me know!
