Misfortunes of 3D Printer

One of my 2 Creality Ender 3 S-1’s has a major issue. Over the last two years with the machine, it has failed me time and time again to get through a print. Today I decided to tear down the extruder to find the problem, and oh what a problem I found…

The filament goes from the roll to the hot end through the extruder. As the extruder pushed out the filament with a gear, the filament gets warmed up, melts, and it pushed out of the hot end. I have had an abysmal time getting Ender #2 to ever be level. So when I run some prints, if they over just the right spot, the filament jams, preventing it from flowing. The filament warms higher and higher until it gets soft right at the transition point from the narrow filament tunnel to the hot end. It then cools and the hardened filament gets trapped.

Well, it got trapped all right. It got so trapped that it busted out the wall of the tunnel.

Well, here’s to a new $100 extruder! I really have to work on getting the bed leveled out.

Time to head to Amazon for the new part!

But that’s the thing. these beds are fairly large in area. I also think the machines bed is slightly warped, as some areas are too far away from the extruder, so the bottom layer does not adhere, while other areas are too close, causing the original problem in the first place!

Filament printers are certainly easier in regards to print and go, but you have to get those settings dialed in!
